Prelude Review – October 25, 2006
On October 25, 2006, with the Mayor's commitment, the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Historic Old Sacramento Foundation launched the inaugural Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival. The concept is to add a third celebration of our community to complement the Jazz Jubilee and Gold Rush Days. Modeled after the highly successful San Francisco event, the objective is to showcase the cultural diversity of Sacramento. The Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival contributes to the vision of Sacramento becoming "The City of Festivals".
Sacramento is recognized as one of the most diverse regions in America, in fact in 2002, TIME Magazine called Sacramento "America's Most Ethnically Diverse City". To celebrate this, music and dance from many nations and cultures will be showcased during this launch event while attracting school children in the same way Gold Rush Days does. High-level amateur and professional groups will headline the evening event. Performers will be paid a fee to support their art form. An attractive package for out-of-town performer accommodations will be arranged and performers will be encouraged to bring family members and friends. |
